Missing a tooth? You’re not alone. Missing teeth can be troublesome and cause problems with eating, speaking, bone maintenance, and aesthetics. Here at MM Dentistry in Burke, VA, we can provide dental implants and they are an excellent solution for replacing missing teeth.
What are Dental Implants?
Implants can look and feel like natural teeth, last for many years, and give you a confident smile. More importantly, they can preserve your oral health by preventing bone loss in the jawbone. An implant can be a single replacement option for one missing tooth, or replace several missing teeth–serving as a base system for dentures and bridges.
Implants are made of a biocompatible titanium rod which is embedded into the jawbone to serve as both a root and base for the artificial crown. The entire implant crown will closely mimic your natural tooth and you will be able to chew the foods you love. We feel confident that your implant will not only be functional but look great!
How Long Do Dental Implants Last?
Implants should be treated as a regular tooth to prolong longevity and its lifetime. With proper oral care and maintenance, it can be a permanent solution and last a very long time.
How Much Do Dental Implants Cost?
The cost of dental implants varies depending on your individual needs. We can help you understand the cost once we go over your dental goals, provide a thorough evaluation, and offer some treatment recommendations. We can estimate the cost before service begins to help you feel confident that you are making the right decision for your dental health and budget.
Are Implants Right for Me?
Dental implants are an excellent option for replacing missing teeth. When you schedule an initial consultation, we will conduct a thorough examination and review your dental history to see if implants are a great option for you. Our team is here to help answer any questions and guide you on making the best decision for your health.
However, dental implants may not be the best choice if you have existing dental or overall health issues. If you have suffered from jawbone loss or severe gum disease, implants may not be the best solution or in some cases – possible. You will need to have enough jawbone to support the implant. If needed, we can perform a jawbone grafting procedure to add additional supporting material for the implant.
What is the Dental Implant Process?
Our dental implant process usually takes several visits over an average course of 4-6 months. The first appointment is for the evaluation and planning. Dr. Ma will discuss your dental concerns and goals with you. We may take CBCT x-rays to help plan your implant procedure.
The second appointment will be for the implant placement. Additionally, if the tooth is still present, it can be removed and an implant can be placed the same day! During this appointment, Dr. Ma may also recommend an added bone graft for support. We will start by ensuring you are comfortable, that we have answered all of your questions, and that you are ready to proceed. Dr. Ma will administer anesthesia and surgically place the implant into the jawbone.
Your mouth and jaw will need some time to heal and adjust to the implant before proceeding to the next step. Most people experience minimal discomfort after implant placement surgery. You may need to take a few days off of work to recover, but you will be able to resume your normal activities soon after.
About 3-4 months after, we will check the implant healing, uncover the implant (if needed), and take impressions of the implant. The implant crown and abutment will be custom-made to match your other teeth.
The final step will be placing the crown and abutment on the implant. We will ensure that the crown feels comfortable in your mouth and that you are satisfied with your new tooth!
